This propaganda piece is an example of the card stacking technique because of the misleading statistic used to promote a cause. It was proved later that much less than 5200 prisoners were killed, perhaps even with governmental knowledge, but the government took advantage of the untrue statistic, blowing it up to provoke a stronger reaction from citizens. Card stacking is the technique of basing statistics on falsehoods to show only one side of the issue. The U.S. government in no way mentioned that its own brutal policies towards Axis POW's was part of the reason why their soldiers were treated so badly, because that would ruin the war effort. It is also worth noting that the statistic first appeared in a newspaper, which serves as a testament to how rampant sensationalism was at that time, facilitating the war craze with incentives for newspapers to continually post such misleading information to sell more newspapers.
